  • Advance 4 Training offers this Training Programme to New Entrant Candidates, which has been developed to address the needs of the gas industry and in compliance with IGEM/IG/1 Edition 2 "Standards of Training in Gas Work and the Gas Training Specification." 

    This training programme is structured to ensure adequate learning is undertaken in a classroom environment before the learner begins collecting work-based evidence.
    The classroom-based activity will include structured learning, which will include both relevant practical and written assessments to demonstrate both understanding and application of knowledge in each key area of gas safety and/or related activities such as safe isolation, basic health, and safety etc.

    After successful completion of Fundamental Gas Training Course, the learner is eligible to enrol for Initial ACS assessment. Upon completion of the ACS assessment, candidates are eligible to apply for Gas Safe Registration. 

    Category 2 Candidates: Please see our Category 2 course for details. Plumbing, heating, Gas or related industry qualification equivalent to Category 2 candidates as listed in current Guidance Note 8 appendix 1 is required for experienced (Cat2) route.
    Duration: The Minimum Guided Learning Hours of this Course is 266 GLH for Core Competencies

    What is not included in this course fee?
    • On-site portfolio service fee
    • ACS assessment fee (step 3) payable at the time of ACS booking, upon completion of training Programme. 
    • Candidates wish to complete Domestic Central Heating and Hot Water Appliances (including System Design and Controls) (CENWAT), Heating Design, Heat Loss and Comfort Conditions, Hot Water Safety and Water Regulations, additional training cost of £500.00 excluding vat is payable at the time of booking.

  • Step1: Domestic Gas Training-Managed Learning Programme (IGEM/IG/1)

    Step 2: “On-site” training (Portfolio Building)

    On-site training should be a minimum of 18 weeks under direct supervision of gas safe registered engineer(s). Supporting evidence (such as photographs, job sheets, copies of commissioning sheets and safety records etc) must be of sufficient breadth and quality for this to be achieved. Upon successful completion of in-centre training, as part of the managed learning programme and prior to sitting the ACS assessment you require to complete an 'On-site’ Portfolio of Evidence. if you encounter any difficulty with your own arrangements for Portfolio service, we may recommend a mentor. (Gas engineer may charge for this service, price on application, if any).  

    Upon successful completion of Summative assessment and on-site portfolio (and approved by one of our assessors), you are issued a MLP Training Certificate - Domestic Natural Gas by Adskills certification.  Now you are eligible to apply for (Step 3) ACS Domestic core gas safety Initial assessment.

     Step 3: ACS Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1) Assessment (Initial)

    You are assessed on theory (Open book exam with multiple choice questions) and practical knowledge. On successful completion of assessment, learner will be issued a certificate for core domestic Gas Safety CCN1 and one Appliance, (subject to your training certificate). Candidates are now eligible to apply for Gas Safe Registration.

  • For "New Entrant" Candidates:  
    Candidates will normally have gained a minimum of 2 GCSEs (grade C) or equivalent, preferably English, Mathematics or relevant/appropriate experience or an entry assessment is required, and learners have the potential to achieve the qualification and Centres should ensure that the applicant should first of all be satisfied they have at least the following skills and attributes: -
    • Be able to demonstrate experience in related areas (mechanical engineering, construction industry related trades.
    • Be reasonably able in respect of basic numeracy and literacy
    • Have a good level of manual skill and safe use of basic tools such as: - Screwdrivers, Spanner, Various types of grips/wrenches, Hacksaw etc.
    • Be able to accurately measure with rulers and tape measures etc.
    • Be able to quickly assimilate information and demonstrate understanding
    • Be able to complete short reports accurately
    • Have good attention to detail

  •  Upon successful completion of the Assessment, the candidate will receive a Fundamental Domestic Gas Training (MLP) certificate from AdSkills Certification and will be eligible to enrol onto ACS Initial Assessment to become Gas Safe Registered.
