  • This qualification meets the minimum qualification level for qualified supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) and want to join competent person scheme (such as NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA etc). It will provide the learner with the skills and knowledge needed for ensuring the safety, quality and technical standard of the electrical installation work carried out by the enterprise. The qualification comprises knowledge and performance within ‘combination units.

    Please note that candidates are required to complete an 'On the Job’ Portfolio of Evidence to achieve this qualification.

  • Course Structure


  • This qualification can be delivered by a mixture of practical workshops and theory classes.

    This qualification will be obtained by you once you have completed the 8 mandatory units to achieve 27 credits. This certificate has 224 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). All units must be completed.

    Knowledge learning outcomes have on-screen exams and a centre marked assignment. Performance learning outcomes are assessed in centre (using occupational evidence and/or simulated assessment).

    The assessment of this qualification involves the following aspects:

        •    Knowledge learning outcomes: External (EAL marked) on–screen exams, and a centre marked assignment.
        •    Performance learning outcomes: Locally assessed.
        •    Completion Occupational Competence Unit: Which is assessed by an externally set assessment rig in an independent controlled assessment environment, which is dedicated to assessment activity only and does not facilitate for learners’ working or training activity. To undertake this unit, learners must provide auditable formal evidence that they have the relevant electrotechnical knowledge, understanding, experience and skills at the appropriate level that enables them to carry out the assessment activities effectively and safely as prescribed for each learning outcome. It is a recommendation that this is the last unit to be undertaken in the Certificate.

  • This qualification will be obtained by you once you have completed the 8 mandatory units to achieve 27 credits. All units must be completed:

        •    Unit ELTD3/01; Understand and Apply Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures 'Electrical Installations in Dwellings' GLH 35
        •    Unit ELTD3/02; Understand and apply environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems associated with Electrical Installations in Dwellings  GLH 35
        •    Unit ELTD3/03: Understand and apply the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment when installing electrical installations in dwellings GLH 25
        •    Unit ELTD3/04: Understanding and applying the principles, practices and procedures for the planning, preparation and selection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in dwellings GLH 25
        •    Unit ELTD3/05: Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the installation and connection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in dwellings GLH 25
        •    Unit ELTD3/6.1: Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning, approving and certification of electrical installations in dwellings GLH 40
        •    Unit ELTD3/07: Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrical installations in dwellings GLH 35
        •    Unit ELTD3/OCU: ELECTROTECHNICAL OCCUPATIONAL COMPETENCE ? Approval of Electrical Installations in Dwellings GLH 4
    
This certificate has 224 Guided Learning Hours (GLH). 


  • Prerequisite

  • Learners must have the maturity and potential ability to meet the requirements of the assessment criteria for each learning outcome of the qualification units. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and the external assessment.

  •  Achievement Upon Completion

  • At successful completion of this course the learner will receive an EAL Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings (QCF) 600/7695/1.
